Last season was derailed by a calf and knee injury, and his year ended on injured reserve, but the Panthers’ backfield has since shifted in his favor because Rico Dowdle left Carolina in free agency for Pittsburgh. That departure reopens the door for Hubbard to reclaim lead-back duties, which is the main reason fantasy managers are again willing to buy into him as a useful RB2 or strong flex option.

The biggest fantasy argument for Hubbard is still opportunity. Carolina’s current depth chart looks thinner than it did a year ago, and recent offseason previews have Hubbard projected around the RB28 range while also noting that he has a realistic chance to resume the RB1 role in the backfield. FantasyLife also pointed out that the Panthers’ run blocking helped the position produce efficiently last year, which matters because Hubbard does not need elite touchdown volume to pay off if he can capture steady carries and goal-line work. That combination of role security and usable offense gives him a solid floor in PPR and half-PPR formats.

There is still some risk, mostly because Jonathan Brooks remains in the picture and Carolina may not completely abandon a committee if Brooks can finally stay healthy. Hubbard’s 2025 season also reminded fantasy managers that injuries can quickly change his weekly outlook, and he has not fully cleared the durability questions that come with a featured back profile. Even so, the most recent reporting suggests the Panthers view him as part of the plan moving forward, and the current market has him priced more like a midrange RB3 than a locked-in starter, which creates value if he wins back the lead role.

For 2026 drafts, Hubbard profiles as a sensible target in the middle rounds for managers who want stable volume without paying for a top-tier back. The realistic range of outcomes is a useful weekly starter if he stays healthy and controls the backfield, with RB2 upside if the Panthers lean on him near the goal line and Dowdle’s departure proves as important as it looks on paper. The downside is a timeshare or another injury-limited season, but the current setup points more toward rebound than collapse, making Hubbard one of the more appealing Carolina fantasy bets for 2026.
