Season Preview

The Lions enter 2026 with one of the most fantasy-friendly cores in football, and the headliners are still Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Jared Goff. Gibbs is locked in as the featured back after his three-year extension through 2030, and the Montgomery trade earlier in the offseason only strengthened his case for elite volume and big-play upside. St. Brown remains the safest target magnet in the offense, while Goff continues to offer one of the steadiest weekly floors among quarterbacks thanks to Detroit’s balanced but explosive attack.

The biggest fantasy swing on this roster is the backfield structure, because Gibbs now projects as the clear lead runner rather than part of a committee. That makes him a strong first-round target in all formats, especially in PPR leagues where his receiving work can separate him from other backs. If the offense stays healthy and efficient, Gibbs has top-five overall fantasy upside, while Goff becomes an excellent value QB1 in drafts that wait on quarterback.

Wide receiver is still anchored by St. Brown, but Jameson Williams brings boom-or-bust appeal as the field-stretching complement who can win weeks if his role and efficiency hold up. Isaac TeSlaa looks more like a late-round stash than a reliable starter, so fantasy managers should mostly treat Detroit as a two-receiver fantasy offense unless injuries or camp buzz change the picture. The depth chart and recent roster movement also point to a cleaner path for the primary weapons to dominate touches and targets.

Health is the main thing to monitor in late August, especially with Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph both working back from injury situations that could affect early-season defensive stability, while Sione Vaki also has a recent injury note that could matter for backfield depth. On the offensive side, the Lions’ recent transactions included signing Joshua Dobbs and cutting several tight ends, but none of those moves meaningfully changes the fantasy outlook of the core starters. Overall, Detroit remains one of the best offenses to invest in for 2026 fantasy, with Gibbs and St. Brown as premium picks, Goff as a strong value, and Williams as the high-variance upside play.
