As we approach the 2025 fantasy football season, Dalton Schultz, the starting tight end for the Houston Texans, is a player who comes with a mix of potential and caution. After a stellar first year in Houston in 2023, where he averaged 10 PPR points per game, Schultz experienced a significant drop in production in 2024. He finished the season with just 53 catches for 532 yards and two touchdowns, resulting in a TE22 fantasy finish in half-point PPR scoring.

Despite his reliable performance in the past, including a catch rate of at least 62% in five consecutive seasons, Schultz's fantasy value is currently muted. The Texans have revamped their receiver corps, adding veteran Christian Kirk and promising rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel, which further crowds the target share. With Nico Collins expected to be the undisputed target leader, Schultz may find himself lower in the pecking order than he was last season.

However, there is a glimmer of hope for Schultz. The Texans are undergoing changes, including the departure of Stefon Diggs and an injury to Tank Dell, which could potentially open up more opportunities for Schultz to become a go-to target for quarterback C.J. Stroud. If Schultz can establish a consistent connection with Stroud, he could see an uptick in his stats and become a valuable asset in deeper fantasy leagues or tight-end premium formats.

For now, it's prudent to view Schultz as a midrange TE2 at best. He is worth considering in deeper leagues or as a waiver wire pickup if he starts to show signs of rebounding. While his individual skills, such as good hands and solid route-running, are still intact, the crowded receiver room in Houston caps his upside. As the season progresses, keep an eye on Schultz's performance, but for the time being, he remains a deep-league flier rather than a primary fantasy target.
