Demario Douglas

New England Patriots

Season Preview

As we head into the 2025 fantasy football season, DeMario Douglas is a player who, while showing promise, faces significant challenges in his role with the New England Patriots. In his sophomore season in 2024, Douglas made notable strides, setting career highs with 66 receptions, 621 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. He carved out a consistent role as the team's primary slot receiver and demonstrated his reliability by catching at least two passes in every game but one.

However, the Patriots' offseason moves have altered Douglas's fantasy outlook. The acquisition of Stefon Diggs, who is recovering from a torn ACL, could significantly reduce Douglas's targets and overall production. Even if Diggs is not ready for Week 1, Douglas's role is likely to be diminished once Diggs returns to full health. This caps Douglas's fantasy ceiling, making him more of a low-upside depth option rather than a primary starter.

Despite these challenges, Douglas has shown he can perform well when given the opportunity. In 2024, he had several standout games, including a 6-catch, 92-yard performance with a touchdown against Houston. His speed, quickness, and ability to create an edge with his release are assets, although his route running still needs improvement.

For fantasy owners, Douglas is best viewed as a late-round draft pick or a waiver wire addition, particularly if Diggs's recovery extends into the season. He could serve as a bye week or injury cover if he receives around six targets per game, but his overall fantasy value is muted by the presence of more prominent receivers in the Patriots' lineup. While he remains a hardworking and spirited player who could surprise, his current situation makes him more of a speculative pick rather than a reliable starter.
