Deshaun Watson enters the 2026 fantasy season as one of the biggest wild cards at quarterback. He is still with Cleveland and is expected to be on the Browns’ roster in 2026, with multiple reports saying the team anticipates him being back as a potential starter after missing all of 2025 because of his Achilles injuries.

The biggest storyline is health. Watson tore his right Achilles in October 2024, then re-tore it and needed a second surgery, which kept him out for the entire 2025 season; by mid-2026, reports indicated he was healthy enough to speak at minicamp and was even set for live preseason action in August. That matters for fantasy because a player coming off two Achilles surgeries and a long layoff carries major re-injury and rust risk, even if he is technically cleared.

From a fantasy perspective, Watson still has name value because his best seasons showed he can add production as both a passer and runner, but the ceiling looks far more fragile now. The Browns’ commitment to keeping him on the roster also suggests he should get a real chance to compete for snaps, but the long injury history and the team’s willingness to let him prove it in preseason make him a volatile QB2 rather than a reliable QB1.

The best approach in 2026 is to treat Watson as a late-round upside stash in superflex and two-quarterback leagues, not a player to build around. If he looks sharp in preseason and wins the job, he could become useful as a matchup-based starter, but the safer fantasy bet is to draft him only if the price is very low and you have strong depth elsewhere.
