Deshaun Watson
Cleveland Browns
Season Preview
Deshaun Watson enters the 2026 fantasy football season as a low-cost, high-variance quarterback option, not someone you draft to safely stabilize your lineup. The main reason he remains relevant is the combination of a possible starting role, rushing upside, and a Browns offense that could create more pass-heavy game scripts if the defense is less dominant than in past years.
The biggest question is still health and playing time. Watson missed all of last season after a torn Achilles, and recent offseason reports say he has looked sharp in minicamp and is currently positioned as the favorite in Cleveland’s quarterback competition, though that battle is still ongoing. Multiple fantasy outlets also expect him to begin the year as the starter, but there is enough uncertainty behind him that Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel could eventually matter for the depth chart.
From a fantasy standpoint, Watson’s appeal is tied to price and upside rather than consistency. Current projections from FantasyPros put him around QB36 with modest passing volume, roughly 2,587 passing yards, 14.5 passing touchdowns, and about 255 rushing yards, which fits the profile of a back-end QB2 or matchup-based streamer rather than a weekly fantasy starter. FantasyLife’s outlook is similar, noting that managers are drafting him because the cost leaves room for profit and that a few spike weeks could justify the pick.
For 2026 drafts, Watson makes sense only if you want a bench quarterback with real downside but a path to outperform his ADP. If he keeps the starting job, his rushing ability and a potentially improved supporting cast give him a chance to return usable fantasy weeks, but the floor is still fragile because of the injury history, the uncertain job security, and the fact that his best NFL production is now several seasons behind him.
