DK Metcalf
Pittsburgh Steelers
Season Preview
DK Metcalf enters 2026 as a steady but slightly less exciting fantasy option than he was in his prime. After a first season in Pittsburgh that produced 59 catches, 850 yards, and six touchdowns in 15 games, he is being priced more like a WR3/Flex than a locked-in WR2, with CBS Sports noting he should go in Round 7 or later after averaging 12.5 PPR points per game last season.
The biggest reason for caution is the Steelers’ evolving offense. Metcalf is now working in a new-look Pittsburgh passing game with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, and FantasyPros says he remains the team’s lead receiver but also faces more target competition after the Steelers added Michael Pittman Jr. via trade and drafted additional pass-catchers. CBS Sports also points out that Metcalf has posted a target per-route run rate below 22% in three straight seasons, which makes it harder to project true elite volume unless that usage changes.
That said, there is still bounce-back appeal if the offense becomes more efficient. SI’s outlook sees value in his current draft cost and projects a range around 70 catches, 900 yards, and five to seven touchdowns, while FantasyPros describes midrange to low-end WR2 production as a reasonable expectation. Metcalf still has the size, red-zone role, and big-play ability to outproduce his draft slot if Pittsburgh’s passing game is healthier and Rodgers pushes the ball enough downfield.
For fantasy drafters, the key takeaway is that Metcalf is no longer a player you need to reach for, but he remains a useful target if he falls into the WR3 range. His recent off-field legal situation should not create additional 2026 fantasy concern, as reports say he will not be charged and no further discipline is expected from the league. In a friendly draft-room phrase: draft him for volume-friendly upside, not superstar certainty, and you’ll probably be happy with the return.
