Geno Smith
New York Jets
Season Preview
Geno Smith enters the 2026 fantasy football season as a low-end QB2 with a clearly better path to usable production than he had in Las Vegas, because he is now expected to start for the Jets after being traded there this spring. The move gives him another chance to run an NFL offense, but at age 35 and coming off a rough 2025 season with 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 15 appearances, he looks much more like a late-round or superflex option than a regular one-quarterback league starter.
The biggest reason for cautious optimism is situation. FantasyPros notes that the Jets have a solid offensive line and an interesting group of pass catchers led by Garrett Wilson, plus rookie additions Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr., which should help Smith avoid having to do everything himself. That matters because Smith’s best fantasy stretches have come when he could lean on structure and talent around him, and he is only two seasons removed from throwing for 4,320 yards with Seattle.
Still, the ceiling is limited. Recent projections have Smith around the QB20-to-QB27 range, with roughly 3,400 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions, which points to a usable but unspectacular profile. Footballguys specifically frames him as a player who will “almost certainly go undrafted” in standard leagues, while still having enough value as a backup quarterback in superflex or deeper formats.
For fantasy managers, the practical takeaway is simple: draft Smith only if you want stable bye-week insurance or a cheap second quarterback, not as a player you build around. There is some upside if the Jets’ offense clicks and his interception total comes down, but the most realistic outcome is a serviceable, replacement-level starter who helps the players around him more than he helps fantasy lineups on his own.
