The main thing fantasy managers need to watch is contract stability, not talent. Pickens has been seeking a new deal, skipped voluntary OTAs, and the Cowboys expect him to report to mandatory minicamp after signing his franchise tag late in April, so his status appears intact for now. That matters because any holdout or late-summer friction would be the biggest threat to his early-season value, but at the moment the recent reports point to him staying in Dallas and being available for the season.

The risk, as always, is volatility. Pickens has a high-variance style, so his week-to-week production may be less predictable than the elite target-hog receivers, especially if Lamb continues to command plenty of looks. In 2026 drafts, he profiles as a strong pick for managers who want top-end upside and can absorb some weekly swings, and he looks like a player who can finish well above his draft cost if the contract situation stays calm and his chemistry with Prescott carries over.
