Isiah Pacheco

Isiah Pacheco enters the 2026 fantasy season in a very different spot than the one he occupied during his peak years in Kansas City. He has signed with the Detroit Lions on a one-year, fully guaranteed deal, and the move immediately changes his outlook because he is now joining a backfield built around Jahmyr Gibbs after Detroit traded David Montgomery to Houston.

From a fantasy standpoint, the most important question is usage. The recent analysis from Footballguys and Establish The Run both point to Pacheco filling a complementary role rather than becoming the lead back, with work likely coming on early downs and in relief of Gibbs rather than in the high-value goal-line and short-yardage role that usually drives fantasy upside. FantasyPros also describes him as a change-of-pace and handcuff option, while noting that if Gibbs misses time, Pacheco could become an RB2-level fantasy play thanks to Detroit’s strong offense and relatively light backfield competition.

Health is the other major factor. Pacheco’s 2024 fibula fracture cost him 10 games, and the recent writeups say his explosiveness has not fully returned, with his 2025 season producing just 462 rushing yards in 13 games and no 20-yard rushing gains. That injury history matters because his best fantasy path depends on regaining enough burst to win carries efficiently and earn more meaningful red-zone work than he has recently shown.

For 2026 drafts, Pacheco looks best as a mid-to-late round pick with contingent upside rather than as a weekly locked-in starter. If Gibbs stays healthy, Pacheco’s value is likely to be touchdown-dependent and somewhat capped by role, but if Gibbs misses time, Detroit’s run-heavy environment could turn Pacheco into a much more valuable fantasy asset very quickly.
