Jahmyr Gibbs enters 2026 as one of the safest and most explosive fantasy assets in football, and he now has a strong case to be the first player taken in many drafts. CBS Sports notes that with David Montgomery traded to Houston, Gibbs could see even more volume, especially near the goal line, and still profile as a top-two overall pick in half- and full-PPR formats.

The appeal is easy to understand: Gibbs already delivered elite fantasy production even while sharing work, including multiple RB1 weeks and nine top-12 finishes in 2025, while finishing with 94 targets. Over the final eight games of 2025, he handled nearly a 20% target share and averaged just under 50 receiving yards per game, which is exactly the kind of receiving usage that gives him a weekly floor and a huge ceiling in PPR leagues.

His upside is also tied to the quality of the Detroit offense. Fantasy Life notes that Gibbs has piled up 3,768 scrimmage yards and 38 touchdowns over his first two seasons, and that many analysts now view him as a legitimate fantasy 1.01 because of his age, explosiveness, and fit in one of the NFL’s best offenses. That kind of environment matters in fantasy, because high-scoring teams create more red-zone chances and more touchdown upside.

The main reason to love Gibbs in 2026 is that his workload appears ready to grow rather than shrink. With Montgomery gone, the path is clearer for Gibbs to become the focal point of the backfield, and that could push him into true overall-RB1 territory if he keeps the same receiving role and adds more scoring opportunities. In short, he looks like a premium first-round pick with league-winning upside, and in PPR formats he belongs in the very top tier of the board.
