Jameson Williams

Detroit Lions

Season Preview

Jameson Williams enters the 2026 fantasy season as one of the more intriguing upside bets at wide receiver. He is coming off back-to-back strong fantasy campaigns, including a 2025 finish as the overall WR10, and the late-season surge that pushed him to WR5 from Week 9 through the end of the year shows what his ceiling can look like when the role and production line up.

The biggest reason for optimism is that Williams now looks like a true downfield centerpiece in Detroit rather than just a splash-play specialist. Reports heading into 2026 point to a more vertical passing approach under new offensive coordinator John Morton, which should fit Williams’ explosive skill set well. He has also shown real efficiency, with strong yards-per-catch and yards-per-target production, and his recent stretch of heavy target volume suggests there is more week-to-week stability here than his earlier-career reputation implied.

There are still some reasons to be selective. Detroit has a lot of mouths to feed, and Amon-Ra St. Brown remains a major target hog, so Williams is unlikely to become a pure volume receiver. That means his fantasy value will still swing on big plays, and he will likely have some frustrating dud weeks, especially in formats that heavily reward receptions. Even so, his combination of speed, touchdown upside, and ability to turn limited opportunities into chunk gains makes him a very strong play in best ball and a high-upside WR2 in managed leagues.

For 2026 drafts, Williams is the kind of player who can win you a week almost on his own and still offers enough year-over-year growth to justify a confident pick. If he continues building chemistry in a more downfield-friendly offense, another top-12 finish is well within range, and a true WR1 season is not out of the question. The safest approach is to treat him as a premium upside receiver rather than a boring floor play: draft him for the ceiling, then enjoy the weeks when Detroit lets him stretch the field and deliver a long touchdown.
