Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Seattle Seahawks

Season Preview

Jaxon Smith-Njigba enters the 2025 fantasy football season as a promising but somewhat cautious target. After a breakout 2024 campaign where he caught 100 passes for 1,130 yards and 6 touchdowns, establishing himself as a key weapon for the Seattle Seahawks, expectations are high. Smith-Njigba ranked as a top slot receiver and displayed a high-end fantasy ceiling, particularly in the second half of last season when he was a top-10 fantasy WR from Week 9 onward. With major receiving targets like DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett departing, Smith-Njigba is clearly the centerpiece of the Seahawks passing game heading into 2025.

However, the outlook for Smith-Njigba's 2025 production is tempered by some concerns. The Seahawks are projected to emphasize a more run-heavy offense in 2025, lowering the team's overall pass rate from 62.8% last year to 56.9%, which could reduce Smith-Njigba's target volume. Additionally, with Seattle adding wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Smith-Njigba might see more snaps outside the slot, where his separation and route win rate metrics have been weaker. His overall separation ranks around the middle of qualifying receivers, which may limit his high-end upside this season.

Despite these challenges, Smith-Njigba’s status as the clear No. 1 receiver on a team investing significantly at quarterback (with Sam Darnold starting) gives him a solid floor. His target share is likely to remain strong in a receiver room with fewer established options behind him, and the Seahawks’ offensive scheme could evolve to better suit his skill set as the season progresses. From a fantasy perspective, he is considered a reliable WR2 with occasional WR1 upside but can be an inconsistent draft pick due to volume risks and the shift in offensive focus.

Importantly, as of August 2025, there have been no major reported injuries affecting Smith-Njigba’s availability or performance outlook this season. Fantasy managers can draft him with confidence that he will be healthy, but they should also prepare for a season where his numbers may not match his breakout year because of the Seahawks’ changing offensive dynamics. In sum, Smith-Njigba is a solid mid-round pick who could reward patience with a productive season, but he is not yet considered a surefire elite WR1 option in 2025 fantasy leagues.
