Season Preview
J.K. Dobbins enters 2026 as a familiar high-upside, high-fragility fantasy option for Denver. He’s back with the Broncos after signing a two-year extension in March, and the team has repeatedly framed him as a key piece of the offense when healthy. The biggest question is still availability: he finished 2025 with a season-ending foot injury, though reports in April said he was fully recovered, and the Broncos later described a August soft-tissue scare as something they were handling cautiously.
When Dobbins is on the field, the role looks good enough to matter. In the first 10 games of 2025, he was producing like a usable weekly starter before the injury, and Denver has indicated he should open 2026 as the lead runner if healthy. Recent fantasy previews have him projected as an RB2/flex type, with some models placing him in the RB20s, which fits a profile built on volume and touchdown chances more than explosive receiving production.
The concern is that this backfield is not his alone anymore. Analysts expect Dobbins to handle the early-down work, but RJ Harvey and rookie Jonah Coleman add competition for snaps, passing-down work, and overall ceiling. That means Dobbins could still be efficient without becoming a true workload monster, especially if Denver manages his touches to protect him over a long season.
Fantasy managers should view Dobbins as a comfortable mid-round value if they’re willing to accept some injury risk. The upside case is a steady RB2 who gives solid rushing volume and goal-line chances in a productive Broncos offense; the downside is a frustrating committee role or another missed stretch of games. He’s a smart target if he falls a bit in drafts, but not the kind of back to build your roster around.
