Joe Mixon’s 2026 fantasy outlook is extremely murky, and the biggest issue is health: multiple recent reports say his foot/ankle injury left his 2025 season wiped out and still makes his 2026 status uncertain. CBS Sports reported that Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said he does not know Mixon’s answer for 2026 yet, while FantasyData noted that his future in Houston depends entirely on whether that injury holds up.

If Mixon is able to play, there is still a case for usefulness because he was productive before the injury and NBC Sports’ fantasy analysis said he could be a reliable running back in 2026 if healthy. That said, the same reporting also makes clear that this is no longer a straightforward feature-back situation, and Houston has already been linked to adding more backfield help, with rookie Woody Marks expected to keep a significant role even if the Texans reinforce the position.

The problem for fantasy managers is that Mixon’s range of outcomes is now wide and mostly downside-leaning. FantasyPros currently shows him with a very low 2026 draft profile and notes that he may try to find a new home, but that his fantasy-relevant days are likely over after the Texans released him. Other recent coverage also frames his outlook as largely dependent on landing spot, health, and whether he can recover enough to earn meaningful volume again.

For 2026 drafts, I would treat Mixon as a deep bench stash only in the later rounds of very deep leagues, and as a player to avoid in standard formats unless the news changes dramatically before the season. His name recognition and past production will keep him on some radars, but right now the combination of injury uncertainty, team uncertainty, and competition for touches makes him a risky bet rather than a reliable fantasy starter.
