Kirk Cousins
Atlanta Falcons
Season Preview
As we approach the 2025 fantasy football season, Kirk Cousins' outlook is somewhat murky. Currently, Cousins is slated to begin the season as the backup quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, sitting behind the promising Michael Penix Jr..
Given his current role, Cousins is not a viable draft pick in most fantasy leagues. His value is significantly diminished unless there is a change in his situation, such as a trade or an injury to Penix Jr. that would propel him back into a starting role. Last season, Cousins struggled and was benched in Week 16, which does not bode well for his immediate fantasy prospects unless circumstances change.
There are, however, some speculative scenarios that could revive Cousins' fantasy relevance. Several teams are mentioned as potential landing spots if Cousins is traded or becomes a free agent, including the New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans, NY Jets, Indianapolis Colts, and even the Cleveland Browns. If he finds himself in a starting role with any of these teams, he could once again become a serviceable fantasy quarterback, particularly as a bridge until a younger quarterback is ready.
For now, the best strategy for fantasy owners is to keep an eye on Cousins' situation and be prepared to add him off the waiver wire if he does indeed find himself back in a starting role. His performance history suggests he can be a solid starter, but his current backup status makes him a wait-and-see proposition for the 2025 fantasy football season.
