Kyler Murray
Arizona Cardinals
Season Preview
Kyler Murray enters the 2025 fantasy football season with a mix of upside and past inconsistencies that make him an intriguing but somewhat volatile option. Last year, he finished as the 12th-ranked fantasy quarterback, averaging about 18.1 points per game, placing him solidly in a mid-tier QB1 range. His numbers fluctuated week to week, with some big "boom" games but just as many low-output weeks. This inconsistency was partly due to a decline in his rushing attempts, which weakened one of the strongest aspects of his fantasy profile.
Encouragingly, the Arizona Cardinals are aiming to bring back more of Murray’s running ability in 2025. The offensive coordinator expressed confusion over the drop in Murray's rushing attempts last season and seems committed to reintegrating that dynamic element into his game. Historically, when Murray can rush closer to his career high of about 8.5 attempts per game (like in 2020), his fantasy production jumps significantly. Recovering fully from the ACL injury he suffered over two years ago has been critical here; Murray confirmed this offseason that he is now fully healthy, which should increase his mobility and confidence to run more often.
On the offensive side, there have been no major changes in personnel beyond depth moves, but that stability may help Murray find more rhythm, especially as he continues to build chemistry with young star Marvin Harrison Jr. More significantly, an improved defense with six new starters, including pass rusher Josh Sweat, could lead to more offensive possessions and favorable game scripts. These factors combined create a pathway for Murray to climb back into the top 7-8 quarterbacks in fantasy rankings and maximize both his passing and rushing potential.
However, some caution is warranted given Murray’s below-average passing efficiency in 2024, where he ranked 20th in yards per attempt and had a less-than-ideal completion rate, limiting his consistency as a pure passer. Still, with his rushing floor and upside intact, along with a schedule slightly easier than last year, many fantasy analysts view him as a high-upside QB2 or a potential late-round steal capable of surprising this season. If you are willing to tolerate some risk and volatility, Kyler Murray remains a compelling fantasy option for 2025 that could pay off handsomely in the right leagues.
