Michael Penix Jr.

Atlanta Falcons

Season Preview

As we head into the 2025 fantasy football season, Michael Penix Jr. is poised to be a significant factor for the Atlanta Falcons and your fantasy team. After being selected eighth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, Penix has already shown promising signs in his limited playing time. In his three starts last season, he demonstrated a strong arm and the ability to make big-time throws, earning an impressive 87.6 passing grade from PFF.

Penix's statistical performance, although limited, suggests he could be an upgrade over his predecessor Kirk Cousins. He posted a +0.11 EPA per dropback, a marked improvement over Cousins' -0.01 EPA per dropback. While his three-game stint resulted in 775 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions, his Week 18 outing against Carolina was particularly noteworthy, where he scored 28.9 fantasy points.

One of the key factors in Penix's favor is the talent surrounding him. With receivers like Drake London and Darnell Mooney, tight end Kyle Pitts, and running back Bijan Robinson, the Falcons' offense is loaded with potential. An entire offseason to develop chemistry with these players and an offense tailored to his skills sets the stage for a breakout season.

For fantasy purposes, Penix is a sleeper pick with significant upside. In deeper one-quarterback leagues, he's worth a late-round flier, while in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues, he should be considered for a mid-round pick. With the potential for high-volume passing and the support of a strong offense, Penix could quickly become a popular waiver-wire addition if he maintains consistency in his production.
