Najee Harris

Los Angeles Chargers

Season Preview

Najee Harris enters the 2025 NFL season with a new team, the Los Angeles Chargers, after the Pittsburgh Steelers declined his 2025 contract option earlier this year. This move shifts Harris from a familiar environment where he logged consistent production to a fresh backfield situation. Harris is expected to share touches in the Chargers’ run-heavy offense with first-round rookie Omarion Hampton, who may command more touches as the season progresses. Despite this, Harris remains a valuable fantasy asset because of his durability and ability to contribute whenever given opportunities.

Throughout his career, Najee Harris has been notable for his impressive consistency and exceptional toughness. Since being drafted in 2021, he has never missed a game, a rarity at the running back position, and has regularly posted between 1,030 and 1,050 rushing yards each season, although his yards per carry have hovered around a modest 3.9 to 4.1 mark. His fantasy points per game have declined slightly since his standout rookie year, but he still offers a solid RB2 or flex option in fantasy leagues, especially in PPR formats given his work as a receiver out of the backfield.

That said, Harris’ fantasy outlook for 2025 carries some caution. The Chargers drafted Hampton in the first round, signaling a possible shift towards a new lead back, which inherently lowers Harris’ ceiling and possibly his floor. In addition, a “superficial eye injury” from a non-football-related fireworks accident placed him on the non-football injury list early in training camp, which could delay his preparation. However, Harris’ role as a dependable secondary back in a run-focused offense still makes him a valuable late-round target who can provide steady points and depth.

For fantasy managers, Najee Harris represents a high-floor, moderate-upside running back situation. He won’t likely return to his top-three fantasy RB form from his rookie season but remains a reliable and durable contributor in a strong offense. Depending on the Chargers’ backfield split and Harris’ health, he could be a steal in drafts as RB34 or later, serving well in committees or as depth with flex appeal. Those in dynasty leagues may want to weigh holding him for consistency against the emergence of younger backs on the Chargers’ roster.
