Stefon Diggs enters the 2026 fantasy football season as a high-variance name, but the ceiling is still real. He is now a free agent after being released by New England on March 4, and he’s also coming off the non-contact ACL tear that ended his 2025 season in Week 8, so his early-season status and eventual team fit will matter a lot for fantasy managers.

The encouraging part is that the off-field uncertainty has cleared, with Diggs being found not guilty in his assault case in early May, which should make teams more willing to sign him and fantasy managers more willing to buy back in. Before the injury, he was still producing like a dependable fantasy wideout, and one recent fantasy analysis noted that he had finished top-20 in fantasy points per game in every season of his career except his rookie year and last season’s injury-shortened campaign.

From a pure role standpoint, Diggs still has traits that can translate quickly if he lands with a quarterback who needs a proven separator. He was used in the slot on 43% of his routes in 2024, a usage pattern that can help aging receivers stay efficient, and recent fantasy analysis has pointed to several possible landing spots that could keep him in the WR2 or strong WR3 conversation depending on where he signs.

For 2026 drafts, Diggs looks like a classic upside-and-risk pick: if he lands somewhere with a clear target path, he could return value as a strong mid-round receiver, but the ACL recovery and uncertainty around his next team make him more fragile than a typical veteran WR. If he signs in a situation with immediate volume, he becomes much more attractive; if not, he’s more of a wait-and-see stash than a player you want to force into early-round plans.
