Terry McLaurin
Washington Commanders
Season Preview
Terry McLaurin enters the 2025 fantasy football season coming off the best year of his career, fueled by a career-high 13 receiving touchdowns and a strong connection with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. He finished as the WR14 in fantasy points per game last season, showing growth in his role as Daniels gained confidence. McLaurin ranked well in deep targets and red zone looks, and his target share increased notably in the latter part of the 2024 season, solidifying him as a dependable WR2 with borderline WR1 upside if the offense continues to improve.
Despite the strong 2024 performance, fantasy analysts caution that some touchdown regression is likely in 2025. McLaurin's efficiency was boosted by a unique offensive environment last year, and while his chemistry with Daniels remains a plus, the arrival of Deebo Samuel introduces more competition for targets. However, Samuel’s different style of play might limit overlap in their routes, which could allow McLaurin to maintain a similar volume and production. His target share of around 23% and strong catch rate (over 70%) suggest he will remain a key piece of Washington’s aerial attack.
That said, McLaurin’s draft stock is somewhat controversial for 2025. His average draft position (ADP) has climbed into the third round, but some fantasy experts recommend avoiding him at that cost, citing the quarterback uncertainty, possible touchdown regression, and emerging weapons around him as risks. In fact, there is talk of him being safer value if taken in the fourth round or later rather than earlier in drafts. This risk/reward balance makes him a solid but not spectacular pick in many eyes.
Off the field, McLaurin’s offseason has been rocky. He requested a trade and sat out much of training camp, citing contract frustrations, and he also dealt with an ankle injury. Although he is expected to be active for the start of the season and remains durable at 30 years old, this situation adds some uncertainty to his early-season availability and chemistry with the team. Fantasy managers should monitor his health and status in Washington closely before locking him into starting lineups.
