T.J. Hockenson

Minnesota Vikings

Season Preview

T.J. Hockenson enters the 2025 fantasy football season with solid potential as a top-five tight end, despite coming off a significant knee injury (torn ACL and MCL) sustained late in the 2023 season. After missing most of 2024 due to the injury and a slower recovery, Hockenson is now fully healthy and poised to reclaim a key role in the Minnesota Vikings’ offense. His previous volume and reliability make him a dependable option, though his touchdown upside may remain somewhat limited in 2025.

Last season, once back on the field, Hockenson showed flashes of his prior form, catching 46 of 67 targets for 519 yards but only one touchdown in 11 games. He averaged around 8.5 targets per game in healthy outings, which would put him on pace for about 71 catches and 802 yards over a full season. However, teams often used him more as a chain-mover than a red-zone threat, which may keep his scoring numbers modest. Still, his presence close to the line of scrimmage and third-down utility guarantees steady involvement.

The Vikings’ offense in 2025 also features a quarterback transition, with rookie Jordan McCarthy expected to take over the starting duties from Sam Darnold. Head coach Kevin O’Connell’s proven ability to develop young quarterbacks is a positive sign for Hockenson’s target volume. As McCarthy settles in, Hockenson should continue to see the opportunity to be a focal point of the passing game, supporting his fantasy value. His youth at 28 and the fact that he is entering the season fully healthy underscore the chances for a rebound to top-12 tight end status.

Overall, Hockenson is being drafted around the fifth tight end spot and represents a confident but balanced pick. While he may not be an elite touchdown scorer, his volume and consistent snaps offer a safe floor. His efficiency on routes and target share are expected to improve as he regains full form post-injury, making him a reliable TE1 option for fantasy managers aiming for steady points. Those drafting him should be prepared for steady production with upside if the Vikings’ offense clicks and his red-zone usage increases.
