Xavier Worthy enters the 2026 fantasy season as a classic post-hype breakout candidate, and the setup is more encouraging than it was a year ago. FantasyPros notes that he underwent offseason surgery to fully repair a torn labrum in his shoulder, but he was already in a yellow no-contact jersey during OTAs and is expected to be fully healthy by the start of the season.

From a role standpoint, Kansas City still gives Worthy a path to meaningful fantasy production because the passing game is not overflowing with established depth beyond Rashee Rice, Travis Kelce, and Worthy himself. CBS Sports specifically says Worthy “will have the best season of his career” in 2026, while also labeling him a sleeper and a late-round target in most leagues.

The main reason for optimism is that the Chiefs’ supporting cast around him changed. CBS Sports notes that Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster are gone, which opens targets for Worthy and the newer names in the room like Tyquan Thornton, Jalen Royals, and Cyrus Allen. FantasyPros also points out that Worthy flashed better production when paired with Patrick Mahomes, so his fantasy ceiling is tied closely to how often he is on the field and how efficiently Kansas City’s offense redistributes work.

For fantasy managers, Worthy looks like a reasonable WR4/bench stash with upside rather than a locked-in weekly starter. FantasyPros’ 2026 projection has him around 54 catches, 713 yards, and 4 touchdowns, which fits the profile of a useful player who can spike when the offense is right but still has some volatility baked in. In a best-case outcome, he becomes the Chiefs’ No. 2 or No. 3 receiving option and outperforms his draft cost; in a more conservative build, he remains a speed-dependent flex who is more valuable in best ball or deeper formats.
