James Conner’s 2026 fantasy outlook has changed a lot, and it starts with the Cardinals’ offseason moves. Arizona drafted running back Jeremiyah Love third overall and also added Tyler Allgeier, which leaves Conner projected as at best the RB3 on his own depth chart unless the team’s plans shift again before September. He also enters his age-31 season coming off a 2025 foot injury that ended his year after just three games, so both role and health are real concerns.

That said, Conner is not being dismissed because of talent or past production. In 2024, he delivered a career-high 1,508 scrimmage yards and nine touchdowns, finishing as the RB11 in half-point PPR, and he was also coming off a strong two-year stretch in which Arizona trusted him with heavy volume and a contract extension through 2026. His recent track record shows he can still be productive when he is on the field, especially near the goal line, where his touchdown upside has long been fantasy-friendly.

The biggest question for 2026 is whether he can still command enough touches to matter in a backfield that now has younger, higher-investment competition. Conner’s best-case path is a meaningful committee role with enough short-yardage and passing-down work to produce flex value, but that is no longer the same foundation that made him a reliable RB2. If Love is as advertised and Allgeier settles in quickly, Conner’s weekly ceiling could drop sharply even if he is active and healthy.

For fantasy managers, Conner looks more like a late-round depth play than a player to build around. If you draft him, you are betting on two things at once: a successful recovery from the foot injury and enough veteran trust to stay involved despite Arizona’s new personnel. That makes him a risky but potentially useful stash in deeper leagues, while in standard-sized formats he is best treated as a bench option whose value depends heavily on how the Cardinals distribute touches early in the season.
