Rome Odunze enters the 2026 fantasy football season as one of the more intriguing buy-low breakout candidates at wide receiver. The biggest reason for optimism is that his disappointing second half in 2025 was heavily tied to a foot injury, not a collapse in talent, and recent reports say he does not need offseason surgery and should be healthy for the Bears’ offseason program.

Before the injury derailed things, Odunze was producing like a high-end fantasy WR, ranking among the top wide receivers in points per game through the first part of the season and even hitting WR3 territory in 0.5 PPR through Week 4. That start included five touchdowns in his first four games, and one analyst noted that he was on pace for a massive season before the foot issue sapped his efficiency. Footballguys also points out that the market may be overreacting to his late-season slump, with early drafts pricing him closer to his floor than his ceiling.

The overall situation in Chicago is still encouraging. FantasyPros notes that the Bears lost significant wide receiver volume and touchdown production with DJ Moore gone, while Odunze remains closely tied to Caleb Williams and the team’s passing-game growth under Ben Johnson. At the same time, there is real target-competition risk, because Colston Loveland and Luther Burden are expected to have larger roles, and one Bears-focused analysis suggested Odunze could function as more of a “sacrificial X” receiver who helps the offense create space for others.

For fantasy managers, Odunze looks like a strong mid-round target with clear upside and some volatility. If he stays healthy and the Bears’ offense takes the next step, he has top-15 receiver upside; if target distribution gets crowded or the chemistry with Williams remains inconsistent, his weekly ceiling could be less stable than the name value suggests. My read for 2026: draft him as a confident WR2/WR3 with breakout potential, and treat the injury concern as a reason for caution, not panic.
