Spencer Rattler

As we approach the 2025 fantasy football season, Spencer Rattler, the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, finds himself in an intriguing yet challenging position. Following his rookie season in 2024, where he threw for 1,317 passing yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions with a completion rate of just 57%, Rattler's fantasy value remains questionable. Despite these underwhelming stats, he has an opportunity to compete for the starting job this season, thanks to the sudden retirement of Derek Carr in May.

Rattler will face stiff competition in training camp from rookie Tyler Shough, who was selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and possibly Jake Haener. While Shough is likely to have the inside track to the starting position under new coach Kellen Moore, Rattler could still see significant playing time. His performance in limited action last season did not inspire much confidence, but the quarterback battle in New Orleans is definitely worth monitoring as training camp unfolds.

In terms of fantasy football, Rattler's value is limited to specific league formats. He is not a viable pick in traditional single-quarterback leagues and should be avoided unless you are in a superflex or two-quarterback league. Even in these formats, Rattler should be viewed more as a bench stash or an emergency QB2 option rather than a reliable starter. His lackluster rookie season and the presence of stronger competition make him a speculative pick at best.

Despite the challenges, Rattler has shown glimpses of potential, such as completing all eight of his attempts during a 7-on-7 drill, which could indicate some improvement. However, his overall performance needs significant enhancement before he can be considered a reliable fantasy asset. For now, keeping an eye on the Saints' quarterback situation during training camp will be crucial in determining Rattler's actual fantasy worth for the 2025 season.
