Indianapolis Colts
AFC South | Bye Week: 11
Season Preview
The Indianapolis Colts enter the 2025 NFL season with cautious optimism but face critical questions, especially at quarterback. Anthony Richardson is widely expected to start, given his exciting rushing ability that adds fantasy upside, averaging about 46.5 rushing yards in healthy games last season. However, Richardson’s passing game remains inconsistent, and the Colts lean heavily on the run when he’s under center. Daniel Jones offers a more traditional passing approach with less rushing upside, but neither quarterback is a clear-cut fantasy QB1, placing the Colts in a run-first offensive category that limits much fantasy upside at the position.
Jonathan Taylor continues to be the cornerstone of the Colts’ offense and a top fantasy asset. Even missing three games last year, Taylor finished as the RB12 in fantasy points, signaling he remains an elite running back when healthy. His role in the backfield is secure, making him an attractive RB1 with potential to finish among the league’s top six running backs. The receiving corps is deep but lacks a defining superstar. Michael Pittman Jr. is expected to lead the group and is a WR3 option, while Josh Downs and Alec Pierce offer depth but inconsistent production. Newcomer Tyler Warren at tight end may provide some value as a TE2, but the Colts’ passing game overall is far from a sure thing, especially if the quarterback situation doesn’t stabilize.
Defensively, the Colts could be a pleasant surprise in 2025. They boast a strong defensive line featuring Kwity Paye, Grover Stewart, DeForest Buckner, and Laiatu Latu, combined with solid secondary additions like Charvarius Ward. Kenny Moore remains a key presence in the slot, and head coach Lou Anarumo, despite a rough end in Cincinnati, is regarded as a strong defensive tactician expected to maximize the group’s potential. This fortified defense might not be a direct fantasy contributor in terms of points, but a better defense could improve offensive opportunities for the Colts throughout the season.
Overall, the Colts appear to be a team still in transition since Andrew Luck’s retirement, struggling to find a consistent quarterback while relying heavily on Taylor’s elite running. The offense’s uncertainty, particularly at QB, limits fantasy projections for skill players outside of Taylor. Indianapolis is likely to rely on a ground-heavy approach and solid defense to keep games close, but the offensive constraints may cause the Colts to stay closer to the league’s lower tier in both real-world wins and fantasy impact in 2025.
