Washington Commanders
NFC East | Bye Week: 12
Season Preview
The Washington Commanders enter the 2025 fantasy football season riding high off a surprising 12–5 record in 2024, which included a deep playoff run. Their young quarterback, Jayden Daniels, is the clear fantasy centerpiece. After an impressive rookie season with over 3,500 passing yards and nearly 900 rushing yards, Daniels is poised to build on his breakout year. His dual-threat ability keeps his fantasy ceiling quite high, especially as the offense continues to evolve under head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s scheme.
Wide receiver Terry McLaurin remains a pivotal figure for the Commanders’ passing game, though his ongoing holdout and contract negotiations have created uncertainty entering the season. With McLaurin sidelined during much of training camp, and Noah Brown recovering from a knee injury, rookie targets like Deebo Samuel and other pass catchers will likely see an early uptick in opportunities. This dynamic could push Daniels to rely more on designed runs and quick, efficient throws in the short term, maintaining his fantasy value despite some volatility at wide receiver.
The Commanders’ backfield features a mix of veteran Austin Ekeler and emerging rookie Zachary Merritt, though Merritt’s immediate fantasy impact may be limited early as the team sorts out its depth chart. Ekeler remains a reliable fantasy asset, especially in an offense that emphasizes versatility and creativity. The offensive line’s health and improvement are crucial to sustaining both the ground game and Daniels’ passing time, with key players like Sam Cosmi returning from injury, which could stabilize the unit for 2025.
On defense, the Commanders face some questions, particularly in the pass rush and secondary. They’ve bolstered depth along the defensive line and signed veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner, who should help anchor the defense. However, with concerns around roster depth and certain defensive positions, Washington’s ability to keep games manageable will impact offensive opportunities and, by extension, the fantasy production of offensive skill players. For fantasy managers, focusing on the Commanders’ key offensive contributors—especially Daniels, Ekeler, and top wideouts—makes the most sense when drafting in 2025.
